Glastonbury Festival registration opens
Fans who want to get hold of one of the 137,500 tickets must provide contact details and a passport photo in order to receive a registration number.
The number does not guarantee entry to the festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton, however fans will not be able to buy a ticket without one.
They have until Friday 14 March to register their interest via the festival's website. Tickets will then go on sale on Sunday 6 April.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has confirmed legendary US crooner Neil Diamond will play the Sunday headline slot.
Eavis also said this year's Saturday headliner was a hip-hop "legend" from New York, but wouldn't confirm or deny if it was platinum-selling recording artist Jay-Z.
He said: "We're trying to get youngsters to the festival this year. Hopefully the headliner will appeal to them. Traditionally we've had a very white line-up and I'm moving away from that."
The Glastonbury Festival will take place from 27 to 29 June.
Madonna To Headline Michael Moore Film Festival
The pop superstar's I am Because We Are documentary, about Aids orphans in Malawi, will headline the alternative film festival in August (08) - and the Material Girl will be there in person.
Thrilled Moore says, "Madonna will present the film, watch it with the audience and conduct a question-and-answer session afterwards.
"It's a huge coup for the Film Festival, and for Traverse City."
And the hard-hitting documentarian, who has taken the U.S. medical profession and President George W. Bush to task in his films, has nothing but praise for Madonna's new release, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
He adds, "She spent the past couple of years filming what the people go through, and the efforts to help them. I saw the film about a month ago. It's a fantastic, powerful movie."
Madonna produced and narrated the documentary after travelling to Malawi, where she met toddler David Banda. She and husband Guy Ritchie are adopting the child.
Pete Doherty - Doherty To Defend Title At Soccer Six
Pete Doherty and his Babyshambles bandmates will be defending their title at Samaritans' Celebrity Soccer Six tournament, it has been announced.
The band heads this year's lineup for the charity football event, which is being held at Millwall's the New Den on May 18th.
Doherty's participation was only able to be confirmed when he was released from prison last week after serving just 28 days of a 14-week sentence for breaching a probation order.
Last year's defeated finalists Razorlight also return and are set to face a host of musical challengers including McFly, Faithless, the Wombats and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
Also donning their shorts and socks are Noel Fielding and Simon Webbe, as well as contestants from Big Brother, X Factor and The Apprentice.
Samaritans' Claire Duncan promised that Soccer Six would be a "fantastic day" for everyone involved.
"It allows Samaritans to raise awareness of the 24:7 emotional support that we offer and in light of the recent suicides in Bridgend in Wales it is vital that we reach out to young people out to young people at an earlier stage before problems seem much more difficult to manage," she explained.
"Samaritans is here to listen, not to judge or make assumptions but to give people the time and space to work through how they are feeling. If you need emotional support then get in touch."
All proceeds from ticket sales for this year's Soccer Six will go to Samaritans.

George Michael to reveal all
T Bone Burnett, Tooth Of Crime
Tooth of Crime is the second record he’s made since returning to solo work in 2006. Most of this new disc was actually written for a 1996 staging of Sam Shepard’s play Tooth Of Crime (Second Chance), but shelved when Burnett decided it ‘didn’t seem like an album.’
The lightweight ditty The Slowdown is the only piece that approaches conventional ‘musical’ fare. The rest of the material is considerably darker, and when compared with his 1980 debut Truth Decay, not as melodic or accessible. One exception is the rather swooning Kill Zone, which was co-written with Roy Orbison and sounds like it. Anything I Say Can And Will Be Used Against You is the other obvious highlight, which comes across like a slow, twisted Tom Waits rewrite of the theme tune from the TV series Get Smart.
The whole thing seethes with bluesy menace, greatly aided by Darrel Leonard’s often-dissonant brass arrangements, Marc Ribot’s atmospheric surf guitar twanging (think Twin Peaks) and Jim Keltner’s masterfully lopsided drums. Sam Phillips croons alongside Burnett on Dope Island, but any romantic solace is undermined by the post-apocalyptic imagery of the lyrics, which teeter on the brink of melodrama here and on The Rat Age. It’s this, and the emphasis on atmospherics rather than memorable tunes – especially on the last three tracks – that makes it something to endure rather than enjoy, and also fuels the feeling that maybe there’s still not quite a full album’s worth of ideas here.
